Our Client

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is an association of local governments to plan for common needs, cooperate for mutual benefit, and coordinate for sound regional development. NCTCOG works to help local governments recognize regional opportunities, eliminate unnecessary duplication, and make joint decisions.

Location

14 Counties in North Central Texas

Project: Network Design, Installation, & Maintenance

JTS partnered with GDT (General Datatech) on completion of a backup system for NCTCOG’s existing regional 9-1-1 system, which spans across 14 counties in North Central Texas. JTS contributed the wireless infrastructure aspects of this project, including:

  • 22 communications towers and
  • 54 licensed microwave links,

which form a self-healing ring among this multi-county network. The design, procurement, project management, installation, provisioning, and ongoing maintenance of this ring have been key elements in the successful execution this project, which requires close coordination with multiple Public Safety Answering Points.

What are PSAPs? “PSAPs (Public Safety Answering Points) are responsible for receiving 911 calls and processing those calls according to a specific operating policy. You might think of these as a dedicated call center for answering emergency phone calls and dispatching appropriately.
